THE
DALLAS
FOUNDATION
TRIADFUND
GRANT AWARD
Communities In Schools, Bell-Coryell
Counties, Inc. is proud to announce it was awarded a
$639,000 grant from the Dallas Foundation’s TRIAD (Texas
Resources for Iraq-Afghanistan Deployment) Fund for the 2007-08 school year
and a matching $150,000 grant for the 2008-2009 school year. This funding has been made available to
assist American military personnel (including active duty,
reserve, National Guard, and veteran service members) and/or
their families who have unmet needs due to death, injury, or
other physical or mental detriment, or financial hardship, as a
result of service in Iraq and Afghanistan and who are receiving
services in Texas.
As a result, CIS will be able to
meet the needs of over 3,000 military children/families
and expand its services to all schools falling within the
10-mile area surrounding Fort Hood. To accomplish this, an
additional 18 full-time staff members have recently been hired
for the upcoming school year and up to 36 additional schools
will be served in Killeen and Copperas Cove ISDs.
According to Mary Erwin Barr,
Executive Director of Communities In Schools: "Many of these
children face difficult challenges because they have family
members who are valiantly serving our country. These children
will be case managed on an individual basis and their families
will be connected to the civilian and military resources they
need to ensure success both at school and at home."
Communities In Schools and the
children and families it serves cannot express their gratitude
enough to the Dallas Foundation and the TRIAD Fund for their
support!
